One Year Anniversary of Forward in Faith Initiative

Saturday, May 21, marked the one year anniversary of the Peachtree City Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Forward in Faith campaign, and the church celebrated with a church service focused on its accomplishments over the past year.

One part of the church’s current Forward in Faith stewardship initiative highlights outreach to the community by financially supporting three local non-profit agencies – The Real Life Center, Coweta CASA, and Southwest Christian Care.  Representatives from each of these agencies came to this special church service and each was presented with a check in the amount of $6,000.  Representatives, who included Mindy Smith from Coweta CASA, Shelley Mann from Southwest Christian Care, and Maria Lee from The Real Life Center, were all surprised and happy at the gifts received which will go to help their agencies in their efforts in our local community.

The church’s mission statement is “to invite our community into a redemptive relationship with Jesus Christ, welcoming people from all walks of life to experience unconditional acceptance with a loving church family.”  The church’s initiative also includes increasing its volunteering in the community and more than 1,500 hours have been given by church members to these three agencies and other local non-profits over the past year.

The church plans to continue its giving and service to the community as its Forward in Faith initiative rolls into its second year.  Pastor Nate Elias put it best by saying, “We are trying to re-write our story.  Christ made the community around him a better place, and we desire to team with other non-profit organizations to make our community a better place.”

Truly Christmas 2015

On November 22, we hosted our 17th Truly Christmas event.  This holiday charity event, held annually on the Sunday night before Thanksgiving, is a special night for ladies only – a celebratory kick-off to the Christmas season with a focus on Jesus, the reason for the season.   Approximately 40 volunteers, mostly men, helped with meal preparation and serving.

This year’s event was themed “Come Worship the King.”  Approximately 25 ladies from the church and local community hosted lavishly-decorated tables, and attendance at this year’s event was nearly 200 women.

After a delicious three-course meal, the attendees were delighted by a Christmas program, starring over 20 children, ranging in ages from 6 to 19.  The story of the birth of Jesus was portrayed and set to Christmas music.  Musicians included vocalists Scott Barrett, Opal Melendez, Madison Davis, and Tony Montenegro.

All proceeds from the event were split between the church’s Women’s Ministry, Coweta CASA, Southwest Christian Care, and The Real Life Center.

Vacation Bible School – Expedition Everest

vbs1With nightly attendance of nearly 60 children, this year’s VBS program “Expedition Everest” rose to new heights!  Throughout the week, kids (and adults) learned that God has the the power to provide, comfort, heal, forgive, and love us forever!  Fun games, activities, Bible stories, and videos helped to reinforce these ideas with a hope that the messages stick with the children throughout their lifetime.

A big thanks to all those who volunteered to make this VBS week such a success!

Camp Meeting Volunteer Service Days

service12

As part of the AscensionMATT 25 remote young adult camp meeting services at our church, more than 25 church members chose to participate in two days of community service on May 28 and 29.

On May 28, volunteers gave of their time at Southwest Christian Care by taking care of needed gardening and cleaning up a nature trail and playground equipment.

Then, on Friday, May 29, two separate groups volunteered at two separate activities – one group helped out at The Real Life Center by sorting a food distribution shipment while another group helped new SCAS 5th & 6th grade teacher Shellie Dale and her family unload a moving truck at their new home.

More volunteer opportunities will be announced soon!

Celebration Banquet

banquet picOn Sunday, May 3, the members of the Peachtree City Seventh-day Adventist Church gathered at the Wyndham Peachtree Hotel for their Forward in Faith Celebration Banquet.  The church’s current Forward in Faith stewardship initiative highlights outreach to the community by financially supporting three local non-profit agencies – The Real Life Center, Coweta CASA, and Southwest Christian Care.

The Peachtree City SDA Church began the initiative in March of this year and chose to invite representatives from the three non-profits to the Celebration Banquet.  The agency representatives included Cathy Berggren, Executive Director of The Real Life Center; Traci Corné, Executive Director of Coweta CASA; and, Mike Sorrow, Executive Director  of Southwest Christian Care.

Church members and invited guests dined on a delicious vegetarian meal while celebrating where the church is today and how the church wants to move forward with its new mission and vision.  The church’s mission statement is “to invite our community into a redemptive relationship with Jesus Christ, welcoming people from all walks of life to experience unconditional acceptance with a loving church family.”

After dinner, a short program commenced including music and inspiring messages from church members with the highlight of the celebratory evening being the presentation of checks to each of the three non-profits.  The church was able to give $1,000 checks to each of the non-profit agencies and also promised additional funds from the current stewardship initiative as well as continued support in years to come.  The church’s members will also be actively pursuing volunteer opportunities at each non-profit.
